Tuckpointing/Repointing
This is a standard practice of maintaining your brick structures. This is done when the brick mortar is wearing away with cracks, holes and missing mortar. Tuckpointing or Repointing is needed on structures because the mortar on them has been worn away and weathered in the elements for years.
You need Tuckpointing/Repointing if the mortar in between your brick is cracked, missing, failing, or soft. Replacing the mortar on a brick structure is much like replacing the oil in a car. If it’s not taken care, the car doesn’t last as long as it could. Mortar is expendable. Brick are not.
Structures that need tuckpointing or repointing can become damaged severely due to water intrusion.
Stainless Steel Liner Installations
A Stainless Steel Liner is used to replace the old clay flue liner that is no longer safe for use. During the chimney inspection process, we scan the inside of your chimney flues. If we see a cracked flue tile, it means there has been a chimney fire within your flues at some point.
THE CHIMNEY IS UNSAFE TO USE AT THIS POINT.
Creosote and smoke can escape between the cracked flue tile which can and eventually will cause a chimney fire.
The only way to know if your fireplace and chimney is deemed operational is by having a chimney inspection performed. If a chimney fire has occurred, it may be covered by your insurance company to have a stainless steel liner installed. We can help you through the entire process.
Fireplace Installations
Grand Designs Chimney also installs wood burning inserts. A wood burning insert is designed to fit within your masonry fireplace opening and is connected to its own liner which is then vented out the top of the chimney.
They are very efficient and burn for 6-12 hours per load depending on the model that best suits you, your budget and your fireplace opening size.
Some also have a tax credit. Save money, while saving money!
